9 Universal Color Schemes for Interiors

Don't know what colors to choose for interior design, or are you afraid of making a mistake? We have collected options for win-win combinations for every taste.

Color Schemes for Interiors

1. Black, white and grey

You can never go wrong with an achromatic palette. But you should pay attention to proportions: it is better to use black as an accent and give the main role in the color scheme to white and shades of gray that you like. How to avoid sterility and make the interior more comfortable? Add a few colored details, let in natural light, and pay attention to textures: wood, layering, and soft fabrics will play into your hands.

2. Green and pink

This combination is a true classic among color combinations. Depending on the shades, it looks completely different: girlishly tender, juicy, luxurious, energetic and cheerful. Since both colors are quite saturated, choose their complex, muted shades. Match them in the same color temperature: for example, pistachio with peach-pink or emerald with dusty rose.

3. Brown, beige and terracotta

Warm colors make the room cozier and are perfect for our latitudes. Especially if the windows face north or you live in a cloudy-rainy climate. All three shades are close, beige and brown are generally related, so there will be no problems with their combination. It is better to introduce bright terracotta as an accent, but use neutral tones as a base.

4. Beige and blue

It is difficult to find a person who would not like this combination. It is often found in nature and evokes the most pleasant associations with water, sky, sun, and sand. Depending on which color you make the leading one, the palette will be warmer or, conversely, cooler. Often, the beige-blue combination is diluted with white or airy light gray.

5. Brown and grey

Another classic, quite strict - this pair is often chosen by men. It will also fit perfectly into a loft or minimalism. Be sure to choose a variety of active textures to avoid a dull and even depressive interior. Take care of the lighting: both natural and artificial.

6. Blue and yellow

In its idea, this pair is close to beige and blue, but the combination is brighter, sunnier, and, accordingly, more active. Therefore, rich blue and yellow are often used as additional shades for a neutral background. But you can also make an accent wall, for example, in a deep ocean color, and use warmth as a contrasting accent.

7. White, black and red

A bright, graphic, but at the same time moderately restrained combination is a good balance for those who want the interior to be bold, but not annoying. Distribute colors according to the standard 60/30/10 principle: give 60% to white, and distribute the rest between black and red. If the latter will play the role of an accent, you can choose a bright, pure shade.

8. Turquoise, pale brown and grey

A fashionable and perfectly balanced combination: moderately bright and restrained. Will appeal to those who do not like classic green or beige - or are simply tired of these colors. Muted dark turquoise is now in trend along with mint and matcha shades, and a cool tone of brown will replace beige and hit the color temperature of the other shades exactly.

9. Purple and classic grey

Many avoid purple in the interior - there are many stereotypes associated with it: from a harbinger of melancholy and depression to a favorite shade of crazy people. But in fact, it is a very diverse, complex color that, when combined correctly, does not cause any negative associations. You don't have to go far - combine dusty purple with noble gray, not too light and not too dark. It will turn out elegant, expensive, and very stylish.
