One-Room Apartment

Customers and tasks

A married couple approached designer Elena Vlasova with a request to furnish this apartment in a new building for their daughter, a future student who is preparing to enter a university. They asked to make a light, bright space, fill it with maximum functionality, and be sure to isolate the bedroom in this One-Room Apartment.

Redevelopment

Initially, it was a so-called Euro-two-room apartment — a separate bedroom and a kitchen-living room, a bathroom, a balcony. The designer suggested re-planning to visually increase the space of the apartment. They removed the partitions between the room and the kitchen-living room, opened the hallway into the common space. In place of the living room by the window, they allocated a bedroom. For this, they built a blind partition and built a "window" into it — this way, natural light will enter the kitchen. The living room area was designed in the former bedroom, it is nominally separated from the kitchen by a slatted partition.

The partition that separated the kitchen from the hallway was extended to fit a spacious closet on the hallway side.

Finishing

Paint was chosen for the wall decoration. White and deep blue were combined. In the living room, on the wall behind the sofa, there is a painting made by the artist - "haze", which was achieved by stretching from dark paint to light. There are also wall panels mounted under the tree.

The walls in the living room and bedroom are decorated with moldings and stucco. The wall in the kitchen is highlighted in mustard color.

The floors in the rooms and dining area are laminated. For the hallway and kitchen, tiles with a small pattern were chosen.

In the bathroom, we used wood-effect porcelain tiles on the floor and shower wall, and on the walls we combined concrete-effect porcelain tiles and stone-effect porcelain tiles with a rust effect in the shower and toilet installation area.

Furniture and storage systems

A large wardrobe for outerwear was built into the hallway. A console table was used for small items.

In the living room there is another closet, where one of the sections is made in the form of open shelves for storing books and decor.

The bedroom also had room for a closet and a built-in bookcase.

There was only room for one nightstand by the bed, as it was right next to the partition with the window. But a niche-shelf was provided in the partition.

In the kitchen, they did away with upper cabinets, reasoning that a young girl would hardly cook a lot or keep a lot of dishes.

Open shelves were made in the niche that was planned by the developer. An oven and a dishwasher were built into the lower bases. The refrigerator is also built-in. They refused to use tiles on the apron, covering the wall above the work surface with tempered glass.

In the small bathroom, a narrow cabinet with a sink was placed , a cabinet was made above the toilet installation. The washing machine is at the entrance.

The work place was organized on the balcony. There is also a folding clothes dryer there.

Lighting

The ceiling lighting is solved by surface-mounted spotlights of contrasting black color. Additional scenarios are a pendant over the dining table, decorated with a molded rosette in support of the molding on the wall here, a sconce by the bed, a sconce above the mirror in the bathroom. For ease of control of the light, pass-through switches were provided - the light can be turned on at the entrance and turned off in the living room, turned on at the door to the bedroom and turned off at the bedside table.
