Ksenia Karabanova and Kristina Kirsenko from the A77 bureau strive to create clean spaces into which you don’t want to add anything unnecessary. An example of their approach to the interior is an apartment of 86 square meters designed for a married couple with a newborn child.
The original design was a three-room apartment with two bathrooms, a balcony, and narrow corridors. An obvious plus is the six windows facing two sides. The architects carried out a redevelopment, forming two isolated zones, parents' and children's, as well as a kitchen-living room. In each room, as the customers requested, air and space were preserved. From the living room you can get into both private areas, and the entrance to the children's room is difficult to find: the door is hidden behind a mirror sheet.
“We started from the initial data: a height of 2.6 meters, the rhythm of the pylons along the windows, a concrete ceiling,” say the authors of the project. “To expand the volume, we exposed all the structural elements and multiplied them with mirrors. And to visually increase the height, we used our favorite technique - we painted the floor and walls in the same tone. We also added reflective particles to the floor material. Since all architectural elements are distinguished by laconic geometry, we softened the space by rounding the partitions and the shapes of upholstered furniture. The whole apartment is done in monocolor and only one room, the children’s bathroom, is in deep blue.”
A series of pylons in the living room formed niches. In one of them there was a large sofa with a coffee table and a pillow for the cat, in the other there was an armchair. A wardrobe was placed in front of the sofa; behind its blank façade, a large TV and a fireplace are hidden. In the adjacent compartment there are storage volumes and a game console, which is connected to the TV via a cable channel. The hallway is an open space with natural light. There is a floor-to-ceiling closet at the front door, and the side wall of the kitchen block serves as a mirror.
The kitchen block consists of built-in cabinets with mirrored facades, that is, only the mirror in which the window is reflected is visible. Behind it is a full-fledged work area with a sink, stove and necessary equipment. If you want to hide household details, you can simply close the cabinet doors. An island made of travertine was placed perpendicular to the mirror block; for atmospheric light, a chandelier made of fabric, designed by Bureau A77 specifically for the apartment, was hung above it. Addition - bar stools from the Artu brand. The built-in furniture for the project was manufactured by the La’Rus Style company.
The children's room has an elongated shape, so in order to leave more space for games, the architects placed the sleeping area in a niche near the window. We highlighted it in white and highlighted it with lighting around the perimeter. At the head of the bed, there is a hidden volume for storing books and toys. In the second part of the room, a full-height closet was installed, where clothes and toys are stored, and in the future, there will be educational supplies. On both sides of the cabinet, there are mirrors that visually enlarge the room, filling it with air. Opposite they organized a creativity zone: a table with chairs designed by the authors of the project. The interior is completed by a sports corner consisting of built-in white steps, hanging ropes, and swings.
The master block begins with a spacious hall, from which you can access a dressing room, laundry room, shower room and bedroom. The space is zoned by partitions without doors; only the toilet room remains isolated. At the passage to the bedroom, there is hidden storage for out-of-season clothes and a utility room with an ironing board. The center of the room is occupied by a large bed, made according to the sketches of Ksenia and Christina. Opposite the bed, the architects created a podium on which they placed a cozy chair. To watch movies, a projector was provided with roller blinds as a screen.
A separate room with a window is allocated for the dressing room. There are two zones planned in it - for the wife and husband, each consisting of a white metal rod and a hanging chest of drawers with roll-out drawers. The drawers are divided into three compartments: a low one for linen and two high ones for large items. The architects also managed to plan the laundry room. The built-in closet houses a washing machine and dryer. They provided a laundry basket, storage space for household chemicals and household supplies.
Opposite the dressing room window, the architects placed a full-height built-in mirrored wardrobe, its facades reflect light. A floor-mounted travertine sink was placed in front of it and lighting was provided on both sides. From here you can enter the shower room, which is built on a podium with a slope for water drainage and is finished with large-format porcelain tiles in the color of the plaster. There is a niche with lighting for hygiene products, and instead of a heated towel rail there is a warm wall. Faucets are from the Paffoni factory. The project used Italon porcelain tiles and Vert Deco plaster. The glass partition was manufactured by the Glass Master company.
