Apartment in Scandinavian style:
What should an apartment for rent be like - neutral, calm, universal? Each designer solves this problem in his own way. Anastasia Surtseva and Irina Sokolova, Studio S, proposed a minimalist option with Scandinavian accents.
Apartment with an area of 70 sq. meters, which the designers worked on, is located on the 16th floor of the Wellton Towers residential complex. Initially, it was supposed to become a place for permanent residence. “Our good friend contacted us, who at that time was planning an apartment for herself and her adult daughter - she liked our design, wanted a lot of air, no bright colors,” said Anastasia and Irina. “While we were designing, the customer got married, so during the implementation process it was necessary to adapt to new realities and prepare the apartment for renting out.”
The big plus was that the apartment was a blank canvas - it had an open floor plan set in concrete. But some technological solutions had to be coordinated with the management company: for example, the mandatory ventilation and air conditioning system required a serious lowering of the ceiling in the dressing room, the design of an additional hatch and changes in the carpentry drawings. Nevertheless, in the end, all the necessary premises were formed: a living room combined with a dining room and a small kitchen, a bedroom, a children’s room (which was later not completed), a dressing room, and a bathroom.
The choice of materials and finishes was based on the customer’s request - to design a stylish minimalist apartment with Scandinavian accents. “In the project, we used natural finishing materials: a lot of natural wood, including joinery according to our sketches,” commented the designers. — We also used microcement to finish the slopes of panoramic windows and in the bathroom - this material is durable, impact-resistant, not afraid of moisture, creates a neat connection to other materials, and looks very aesthetically pleasing. In our projects, we like to use natural shades to create a comfortable atmosphere. The palette in this project also corresponds to the chosen Scandinavian northern style.”
The main criterion when choosing furniture and lighting is the authentic design of Scandinavian and Italian companies. There are several & Tradition pieces, a Menu sofa and rug, Louis Poulsen and Vibia lamps, and Flos recessed light in the kitchen. “All interior items are selected compositionally and according to their meaning,” add the authors of the project. “And the highlight was the vintage chest of drawers, which we decided to purchase at the very last moment.”
