Dance studio in Dubai: EDXXKAT project

Dance studio in Dubai

Architects Eduard Eremchuk and Katya Pyatitskaya, studio EDXXKAT, developed the Center Stage concept for the MOOVA dance studio in Dubai. The studio is located in the vibrant heart of Dubai's business district, five minutes from the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. The team was tasked with creating a premium dance studio for girls, the design of which would inspire creativity and self-expression. As the architects emphasize, the focus is on the dancers, and the space serves as a backdrop to showcase their talents. On an area of 175 sq. meters, the EDXXKAT team placed a reception area, a relaxation capsule, a locker room, and two dance halls.

“For us, MOOVA is a space in which girls feel comfortable and discover their talents, a place for movement and freedom. We decided to propose the idea of creating a space for the realization of this freedom. The concept is called Center Stage,” say the authors of the project.

The central element of the studio is the relaxation area - a capsule reminiscent of a podium or stage. The walls and ceiling of the capsule are made of stainless steel and mirrors. It was important for the architects to use the pink color from the studio’s identity, so they chose a bright pink carpet and sofa. The reflections of light and pink in stainless steel mirrors, walls, and ceilings create a magical and relaxing atmosphere. Despite the cold materials, the pod serves as a cozy seating area where clients can wait for a lesson to begin or simply relax.

The two ballrooms are opposite in mood - one is decorated in black, which creates a theatrical atmosphere, and the second has a lighter, lighter palette. The spaces are decorated with two movable lightbox screens with the ability to set different light and color scenarios. The ceiling is made of glossy MDF panels, in which lightboxes are reflected. A mirrored wall also adds dynamism and vibrancy to the space: the theatrical setting attracts customers who want to be the center of attention.

The lockers in the changing rooms are made from MDF and Yarra mahogany veneer. The space has soft, dim lighting that creates a serene mood. “The stage is the most spectacular and attractive point in the interior, to which all eyes and attention are directed. The most inspiring and exciting things always happen on stage. We want the girls from MOOVA to become the main characters of this scene, to shine and feel their uniqueness.”

“The task was to develop not only a premium dance school but also a photogenic space for creating aesthetic and relevant content. When we did a research on dance schools, we realized that there are practically no similar spaces in the world. Usually, a dance school does not have any design. Also, one of the important inputs was the very strict conditions from the developer EMAAR, both in terms of tight deadlines and in terms of coordination of the entire project. We succeeded!” - say the architects.
