In the early 1800s, Romantic poets traveled to Tuscany, drawing inspiration from its landscapes, history and vibrant culture. It was during this time that this Tuscan mansion was built in Ponte a Moriano, Lucca, and was originally used as an observation post over the Serchio Valley. A historic estate in Tuscany with 15 bedrooms with a total area of 7000 sq. m. was put up for sale by Knight Frank for 2.7 million euros.
The building was restored in the 1960s to create five independent apartments. The mansion retains original frescoes on the ceilings and walls, antique stucco moldings and cornices, and marble floors. In addition to numerous bedrooms, the villa has three large halls and three elegant dining rooms, in which lavish receptions were held centuries ago.
There is a farmhouse on the property, which includes a private chapel, lemon house, barn, and other outbuildings. The jewel among the additional buildings is the tempietto (Italian - small temple, small temple), dating from 1813 and reminiscent of an ancient Roman temple with stone columns.
Although the villa is in good condition and suitable for habitation, it is being sold as a renovation project. The extensions require a lot of work and need a lot of work to get them back into full use, so whoever takes on this Italian property will have a major task in renovating the spaces.
