Water more often, ventilate the room, humidify the air, and take other simple steps that will help your plants during the hot period.
1. Water generously
Due to the heat, moisture evaporates faster, so during this period, all plants (even drought-resistant ones) need more water than usual. Increase the intensity of watering: do it more often or pour in more water. But at the same time, make sure that there is no overflow: the moisture must have time to evaporate from the soil. To understand how much more abundant watering should be done for a particular variety, check the soil in the pot.
2. Humidify the air
In summer, moisture actively evaporates not only from the soil but also from the air, literally drying it out. Therefore, it is important to create a comfortable humidity level for plants - this will help them feel better. The easiest way is to buy a good humidifier of sufficient volume (focus on the area of the room and the number of plants). If this is not possible, use folk methods: install a small fountain, do wet cleaning more often, hang wet towels or other fabric on the windows when airing, etc.
3. Remove from sun
Even the most light-loving plants will not be happy with hours of contact with the scorching sun. And in the hottest heat, if the pots are on the windowsill, the flowers can even get burned. To prevent this from happening, think of another place for the plants for a while. Put them away from direct rays: for example, on dressers, shelves, and coffee tables. You can use stools or chairs as a temporary stand. First of all, put aside varieties with delicate leaves and buds, which are more likely to be damaged by the sun.
4. Cool the room
The best way to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room during the summer heat is to turn on the air conditioner. Plants will also be happy with moderate coolness, just do not freeze them. And make sure that the flowerpots do not stand or hang directly under a stream of cold air - it is too dry, and the plants can "catch a cold".
5. Taking a shower
If the hot period is long, give the plants a shower from time to time – but not too often. Place the pots in a bathtub or basin and turn on a gentle stream of water. It should not be cold, adjust the room temperature so as not to overcool the flowers. Water carefully so that all the dust comes off, be especially careful with buds or young leaves.
Important: Not all plants can be washed under direct streams, so first find out information about those that grow in your area.
6. Spray more often
But spraying is suitable for most plants, with some exceptions (for example, with drooping velvety leaves). You can moisten the flowers a little more often than is required for each variety with standard care. For some, even daily spraying in particularly hot weather is suitable. This way you will give the plants more moisture.
Advice: You can add special anti-stress preparations to the water for spraying or use ready-made sprays with the same effect.
7. Ventilate the room
Don't forget to regularly ventilate the room - this will benefit both plants and people. If it is very hot during the day, open the windows in the morning and closer to night. You can even create a small controlled draft - but not for long, because it can cause a cold even in the heat, and plants generally do not like such air fluctuations. If the wind is strong, remove the pots from the windowsills for the duration of airing.
