Opening its doors in Dubai, Nomad Private Collection is a veritable design gallery where visitors can explore a changing collection of pieces in a recreated private home setting. The creators of the space worked in collaboration with architects Michel and Daniel Bismuth, Bismut & Bismut Architects, who focused on the contrast of materials, shapes and shades in their project.
In the gallery's palette, tactile upholstery in velvet and bouclé is contrasted with the cold restraint of metal, flowing lines contrast with expressive geometry, and wood, copper and brass appear as warm accents against a monochrome background. Properly constructed light emphasizes the characteristics of materials and shows the play of lightness and density, fullness and emptiness.
The design duo has gained recognition for projects of various scales: from building construction to product design, since for them all objects are part of a single vision and a single concept. “We worked with both complex materials, such as hand-varnished canvas, and simple ones, such as plaster in the textures of walls and ceilings,” explain the authors of the project.
In a space filled with light, the main task of the architects was to set the rhythm and find a way to build a coherent visual narrative. The gallery features art and design from global brands, including Anotherview, Mandalaki, Nature Squared and by Bismut Collection, the design duo's own line.
Dubai today is a place where cultures intertwine in a complex pattern. The goal of showing a new direction for design in this dynamic city may seem ambitious, but the project by Nomad and Bismut & Bismut Architects proves that this is a serious intention.
